The investor claimed unexpectedly high heating costs in a new build. Thermography revealed systematic thermal bridges at the roof-to-wall connection.
The investor of a newly built family house claimed high heating costs against the contractor. I was called in for an objective assessment.
Measurement
I performed thermal imaging of the façade, both externally and internally, under standard test conditions (interior/exterior temperature difference > 15 °C). The images revealed:
- Systematic thermal bridges at the connection between the pitched roof and the external wall
- Cold spots in room corners
- Defective vapour barrier continuity around penetrations
Conclusion
The construction did not match the design — additional thermal insulation between the rafters was missing, and the vapour barrier was not properly taped at junctions. The report served as documentation for the warranty claim.
